Speed up your recovery

The majority of back pain is felt in the lower part of the spine – although it can be felt anywhere from the neck to the hips. There are lots of reasons you could be experiencing pain but the most common include:

  • Injury
  • Bad posture
  • Sleeping awkwardly
  • A sprain or strain
  • A slipped disc
  • Sciatica

Back pain can come and go or last for long periods of time. Without specific treatment that gets to the root cause of the pain, it’s likely that it will keep recurring.

Treatment for back pain

In your initial consultation, we’ll ask what you want to achieve from your care – whether it’s to be completely pain-free or to regain a level of fitness. One of our chiropractors will then conduct a full examination of your back as well as other joints and muscles.

From here, we’ll create a care plan that might include adjustments, gentle exercise, manual therapy and stretches. Your care will be split up between in-clinic appointments and an at-home programme.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, if we need to carry out any adjustments, this itself won’t usually hurt. However, getting into certain positions or doing certain exercises may feel tender. We will help to make you comfortable beforehand though.

The movement of the bones in the spine generates negative pressure causing bubbles in the joint to pop which is the sound you may hear/have heard (a popping or ‘cracking’ noise).

Although it may look like it will hurt, most people find that the adjustment is not only painless but feels good. For some people there may be minor discomfort during, or directly after, the adjustment. This is an important part of the healing process and will usually clear up within 24-48 hours.

This will depend on your individual situation and how well you respond. We can discuss this at your first consultation.

Your specific circumstances and the results from your consultation and assessment will determine whether x-rays will be necessary. If you have any concerns at all, feel free to raise these at your consultation.

Your chiropractor will be able to advise on your specific condition but we also advise patients to carry out regular light exercise, take care when lifting, avoid sitting for long periods, check your posture and ensure your mattress is in good condition.

No, we use a combination of adjustments, exercises and best practice advice to help relieve pain and prevent it from coming back.

The majority of back pain is non-specific, which means it doesn’t have a single clear cause such as a fracture or tumour.  Our consultation, assessment and X-rays will allow us to give you the correct diagnosis. Back pain can be caused by structural changes to the spine, inflamed joints, arthritis and biomechanical imbalances.  At Life Effect, we can help you with all these issues.
